Mission and Vision Statement
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Boston Area Model United Nations Simulation is to ensure that delegates understand the multi-leveled system of international relations at play in the world today. With this in mind, BarMUN presents its delegates a unique opportunity to engage in highly interconnected and dynamic world crisis simulation. BarMUN forces participants to deal simultaneously with the fragile relationship among both state and non-state actors. In this globalizing world, it is crucial to understand the power of information and its role in international politics. The role of the past on today's events must not be overlooked either. While states continue to occupy the dominant role in the international process, the lines between states can be blurred and BarMUN hopes to exemplify the importance of non-governmental powers though the centuries.
Vision Statement
It is the vision of the Boston Area Model United Nations Conference to continually expand its program to encompass as many aspects of international relations as is possible. It is our sincerest hope that delegates realize international negotiations do not occur solely on one level, but rather, diplomacy engages several levels of government as well as those outside of the political system.
In this new age of international politics, local and state governments play an ever increasing role in diplomacy. Look no further than any international crisis to illustrate the difficult dynamic of multi-level response we must now strive to strengthen.
It is our vision that the skills practiced and learned in this simulation will be used in the future by BarMUN delegates in whichever field they pursue. We hope the knowledge gained about the international systems of the present and past benefits the BarMUN delegates, and they in turn change the world they live in.
