ABOUT THE 2008 BANGLADESHI SUPREME COURT

The Bangladeshi Supreme Court will hear the 2008 Supreme Court case regarding the 13th Amendment: introducing a non-party caretaker government to oversee elections. As arguments are heard by Justices, lawyers will present for and against the constitutionality of the 13th Amendment’s “Caretakers”.  The outcome of such a case will set a precedent for Bangladesh and the function of its democracy. What impact might the Court’s decision have on the future of Bangladesh’s democracy? Will democracy see her liberation, or will she be shackled with the chains of authoritarianism?
