MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
The Ministry of Environmental Protection for the People’s Republic of China works to protect the country’s air, water, and land from pollution, monitor nuclear safety, and promote research in the field of environmental policy. The ministry, a powerful institution, is based directly below China’s State Council and has a significant role in environmental oversight.
Following nearly a decade of headlines, the ministry must address how to combat smog levels that have overtaken cities and exceeded the most toxic levels known to man. Furthermore, facing mounting pressure from the international community, they must review previously lax environmental policies, nuclear safety protocols, and a crippling environmental impact.
Any regulations could hurt the booming Chinese economy, so how will the Ministry of Environmental Protection for the People’s Republic of China walk the line between proper oversight, their foreign relations, and preserving a thriving economy?
