LEAVING THE JUNGLE

the rise of the FDA

It’s 1906, and the Food and Drug Administration has just been developed in response to the publication of Upton Sinclair’s groundbreaking exposé, The Jungle. Although it is a new organization, the FDA already has its hands full overseeing the production of items, such as food, drugs, cosmetics, tobacco, and anything deemed to be radioactive.

As founders of the FDA, delegates have been tasked with reviewing and determining, which products and processes are causing the U.S. population harm in an effort to protect the American people and control the outrage caused by the content of The Jungle. Ultimately, these founders are establishing an organization which will oversee almost all of the future U.S. consumer market.

What direction will you take as a founder of this groundbreaking committee? Will you focus on protecting the public from harmful materials, or will you try to preserve the image of the United States in light of the revealed truth about the food industry?
